NoTube – Networks and Ontologies for the Transformation and Unification of Broadcasting and the internet.
Start 2009.02.01, Finish 2012.01.31
The goal of this project is to make Television more semantic and social. It will develop a framework and prototype implementation for applying semantic technologies to the contextualization of distributed applications in general, and television scenarios in particular. The purpose is to lift TV applications to a new level of service that provides context-dependent and personalized selection of TV content.
Additionally, NoTube will take into account community aspects (e.g., how one person can benefit from the media memories of others, or with whom they share common interests) in order to lift content consumption from a single-user activity to a community-based experience.
NoTube is partially funded by the European Commission as a research and development project under the 7th Framework On Information and Communication Technologies (EU FP7 IST). It started on 1st February 2009 and will run until January 2012. NoTube is coordinated by Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
